Parole in Place & Work Visa Initiatives (Executive Orders)

The U.S. government has introduced two new executive orders that could significantly benefit many immigrant families and individuals in the United States. Here’s a quick overview of these initiatives and whom they might help.

Summary of Executive Orders:

  1. Parole in Place (PIP): Aimed at undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens who entered the country without inspection. 
  1. Work Visa Reforms: Includes provisions to simplify the work visa process and offer benefits for Dreamers and other immigrant workers. 

Information on Each Executive Order:

Parole in Place for Undocumented Spouses and Children

    Overview: The Parole in Place (PIP) program is designed to promote family unity by helping undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens who entered the country without inspection.

    Benefits:

    – Temporary Legal Status and Work Permits: Eligible undocumented spouses and children will receive temporary legal status and work permits, protecting them from deportation while they adjust their status, allowing a pathway to legal permanent residency.

    – Pathway to Permanent Residency: Qualified individuals can apply for green cards without leaving the U.S., avoiding the lengthy and difficult process of returning to their home country to apply for legal status.

    – Family Unity: This policy helps keep families together, preventing the emotional and financial hardships associated with separation.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    – Marriage to a U.S. Citizen: You must be legally married to a U.S. citizen as of June 17, 2024.

    – Continuous Presence: You must have been continuously present in the U.S. for at least ten years as of June 17, 2024

    – No Threat to Public Safety: You must not pose a threat to public safety or national security and must have no disqualifying criminal history.

    – Favorable Exercise of Discretion: You must merit a favorable exercise of discretion.

    If you meet the above criteria, you MAY be eligible for the Parole in Place program.

    Work Visa Reforms and Benefits for Dreamers and other Immigrants

      Overview: The second executive order focuses on work visas and includes provisions that could benefit Dreamers and other immigrants.

      Benefits:

      – Streamlined Work Visa Process: The executive order aims to simplify the process of obtaining work visas, making it easier for skilled workers to contribute to the U.S. economy.

      – Support for Dreamers: Measures to assist Dreamers, young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, in obtaining work authorization and legal status.

      Eligibility Criteria:

      – Have received a degree in higher education

      – Have a job offer in a field related to that degree
