H-1B1 Visa Applications

If you are from Chile or Singapore, an H-1B1 visa allows you to immigrate to the US for certain kinds of employment.  Like the very similarly-named H-1B visa, the H-1B1 is a work visa. One of the only differences is that the H-1B1 is specifically for Chilean or Singaporean nationals.  (Immigrants from other countries will need to apply for an H-1B instead.)

The US government will grant only a limited (and relatively small) number of visas every year.  In this case, “limited” means an H-1B1 will be granted to 1400 applicants from Chile and 5400 applicants from Singapore in a year.  Many applicants will be denied, of course.

Also like the H-1B, the H-1B1 is only available to immigrants in specific lines of work, known as “specialty occupations.”  Generally, these are jobs that require highly specialized skills, or advanced education, or both, or that for other reasons may be unusual or sought-after.

As always, the visa application process is confusing and time-consuming even when you are perfectly eligible, fill out your application correctly, and give a compelling interview.  But you’re more likely to be denied if you make any mistakes along the way, in which case no amount of motivation to work hard in America or even become a US citizen can fix it.  Not only will that alter your career plans, but also you may not be able to reunite with your family any time soon (at least in the US).

I can help you apply for an H-1B1 visa, so that you can come to the US and work in the profession where you excel.  Likewise, if you are helping a spouse or family member try to get an H-1B1.
