If you need an immigration attorney, you’ve probably noticed that many firms offer free consultations. A free consultation may sound like a deal, but it’s usually a mistake. Many of our clients got “free” consulting from other law offices before finding us, and they realized only afterwards that it was all a waste of time.
What’s wrong with “free” consultations with an immigration law firm?
1. In most cases you won’t even speak with an attorney. If you do, he or she isn’t focusing enough on current clients. (Wouldn’t you want the attorney you’ve hired to focus more on your case than on getting the next case?)
2. The call is very short. The secretary, paralegal, or junior attorney tends not to have the ability or interest to get into the details of your case. One big reason most law firms offer free consultations is that most other law firms do, and they’re afraid to be the one that doesn’t.
3. It’s a sales pitch in disguise. This is the other big reason law firms offer “free” consultations: they ask only enough questions to determine whether they want to handle your case. If they don’t want it, the call ends quickly, and without clear legal guidance for you.
With Giselle, a consultation is different. The only downside is obvious: the consultation costs a small amount of money. But the upside is why you’re here: Giselle will give you specific legal advice during the call, whether or not you end up hiring her to handle your case. Once you speak with Giselle, many questions will be answered, you’ll feel less overwhelmed, and you’ll see a much clearer path to your new standard of life here in the US.
Each consultation is 1 hour and can take place via Zoom, by phone, or in-person by appointment (if you’re in the Boston area). Afterward, you’ll receive a follow-up email outlining your next steps.
A consultation with Giselle will give you clarity and a better understanding of your immigration options.
